More appropriately known as Sir Sean Connery, the actor died peacefully in his sleep in the Bahamas, his family reported.

His son, Jason Connery, said Sir Connery had been “unwell for some time.” He was staying on the island of Nassau, where many James Bond movies had been filmed including Thunderball, (1965) and the non-ION production Never Say Never Again (1983), as well as scenes in Casino Royale (2006) in For Your Eyes Only (1981).

Connery also played memorable roles in films such as The Hunt for Red October (1990), The Untouchables (1987), Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade (1989), Medicine Man (1992), and The Rock (1996) to name a few.

“A sad day for all who knew and loved my dad and a sad loss for all people around the world who enjoyed the wonderful gift he had as an actor,” said Jason Connery.

Michael G Wilson and Barbara Broccoli commented on Connery’s death:

“He revolutionised the world with his gritty and witty portrayal of the sexy and charismatic secret agent. He is undoubtedly largely responsible for the success of the film series and we shall be forever grateful to him.”
